IMPORTANT WARNING:

• Use only qualified travel agencies for the application. Be cautious of deposit scams. Qualified travel agencies have deposited RMB 1.6 million with the tourism bureau and are trustworthy.
• Qualified travel agencies can provide customs guarantee. You only need to pay a symbolic deposit of RMB 10,000; the rest will be covered by the travel agency’s guarantee.
• If you use an unqualified company, you will be required to pay the full customs deposit, which equals approximately 50% of the vehicle’s value.
• Unqualified companies may refuse to refund your deposit. Recovering your funds would require filing a lawsuit in a Chinese court, which may take 1 to 2 years.
• Always transfer your deposit to the corporate bank account of the travel agency for better security!
• Be extra careful with companies offering very low prices. They may not profit from your service fee, but use your deposit for their capital turnover and only return it after 2–3 years — or refuse to refund it entirely!
